....Orange you glad to see me?!

Honestly WTF (which has become one of my favorite blogs!) featured this super cute tutorial. What a great idea for all you candle lovers out there! This is a clever way to utilize your winter citrus. Perfect for a dinner or cocktail party. My only concern is that the rounded bottoms of oranges have a tendency to roll around..... hmm....

Satsuma orange candle

Ingredients:
- Satsuma Oranges, with stems in place
- Olive/Vegetable Oil
- Serrated Knife
- A Spoon
- Lighter/Matches

The stem of the Satsuma will be the base of the candle. Lightly score a ring around the top 1/3 of the orange. Gently peel the top off.

Gently remove the orange from iside the peel. Now you have some fresh oranges to snack on! Yum! Or if you're hosting a dinner party try choosing a recipe that uses oranges?

Once the flesh of the orange is taken out, the pitch connecting the outer stem should remain. (Who knew that was called a pith?!) The pith will be the wick of the candle. Snip the outer stem off with scissors so the candle can sit flat.

Pour a few glugs of olive oil into the orange, leaving just the very tip of the pith exposed. Use the spoon to submerge the top of the pith into the oil for just a few seconds. It's now ready to light!
*** Tip: if you’re having trouble lighting the pith, it’s probably because it has too much moisture. Try letting the peel dry overnight (without oil) and don’t forget to submerge the tip into oil for a few seconds before lighting.

Honestly WTF says the candles should burn for a few hours. Never leave candles unattended!

xoxo
